When I was doing the Boulder 70.3 race I was amazed and flattered by all the support from club mates from RMTC. Again at the Park to Park Ten Miler, where I wore the Runners Roost kit for the first time, I was greeted by wildly enthusiastic cheers from people I still haven't even met. This support is so great and I appreciate it so much. I decided I needed to return the favor.
Last weekend I volunteered at the Harvest Moon Long Course Festival in Aurora, CO. I'm embarrassed to say this is the first time I've EVER volunteered at a race. Having done it once now, I am definitely looking forward to doing it again. The organizers, Without Limits, were so grateful and supportive of the volunteers. The athletes as well were grateful. I did my best to address every one and tell them how strong they looked even if they didn't. I saw a bunch of clubmates and teammates and gave them the biggest cheers of all because they have probably done the same for me. The aid station crew I was with got into a good rhythm and we were handing out the water, coke, gatorade, munchies like a machine. Hopefully we met all the racers' needs while motivating them as well.
Volunteering was a rewarding experience and definitely worth the sunburn. It's a great way to be involved in the race vibe without being sore the next day. I am looking forward to the next time I can support my fellow racers.
